NYSHEI Membership -› Web of Science (ISI)
The contract between Nylink and Thomson Scientific for the Web of Science was signed in August 2006 for the period 2005-2009. Billing is available under the Nylink state contract with Thomson.
The contract benefits those state funded libraries renewing their contacts with Thomson and new state affiliated subscribers who may be in the process or have not yet begun the payment process for a new subscription.
The terms of the ISI offer and contract as announced in June 2005:
For new subscribers:
- Lower, tiered-pricing rates based on Carnegie Class, serials budgets, and published works in the Web of Science.
- Discounts on WOS back files.
- Discounted technology (access) fees with no annual increase.
- Additional discounts when the total number of new subscribers hits an ISI defined threshold.
- An optional payment plan for back file purchases.
- Past purchase credits for print or CD-ROM indexes.
- Lower renewal rate.
For existing subscribers:
- Discounted back file WOS back file rates based on the discounts achieved by the level of participation in the broader NYSHEI agreement.
- 4.5% renewal rate (versus 7%)
- As new subscribers are added and ISI participation levels are achieved, all subscribers, new and existing, will benefit from lower annual subscriptions.
- A minimal surcharge applies to all current year subscriptions.
When John Townsend, former NYSHEI Executive Director announced the contract agreement to the membership in June 2005, he said,
"Taken together, this adds up to unprecedented discounts on annual ubscriptions to the full Web of Science, or to its individual databases (Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index), and their backfiles. We have partnered with Nylink. This approach insures that both public and private member institutions will be able to more easily take advantage of the special pricing by providing the convenience of a state contract and the familiar Nylink billing and payment process."
